I was brought into VALHADEN Studios to develop the manufacturing method for the Red Dot recognized launch product of our Pet focused start up named Clara Beara.

The Bag Catch.

Starting with a hand made prototype fabricated by our CEO Shawn, I taught myself CNC machining, plasma cutting, tool steel heat treating and tool and die punch design to get to the final tooling.

Starting with plasma cutting, It quickly became apparent that the quality was not there.

The form factor of the bag catch made it particularly challenging to design the punch/stamping steps. After lots of testing, it came down to a five step process not including the pre and post processing.

Tooling Production.

  • Finding center on the stock.

  • Adding and alternative indicator hole for the flip operation.

  • Roughing out the material.

  • finishing the surfaces up to tolerance.

  • Topside complete.

  • Flip operation complete, next cut out the part and clean up the tabs.
